By Home Chefs

Maybe you have tried cooking before with the result of burnt, unrecognizable food or maybe, you simply don’t have the patience to wait on a slow cooker to cook your meals. Do not give up on cooking! Below are some tips to help you make a variety delicious meals to share with family and friends!

To prevent the crust of your filled pies from getting soggy, coat the dough with egg white first and then bake it for about five minutes to allow it to set. You should then fill and bake as you normally would. This will stop your crust from absorbing too much of the filling during baking and becoming soft and wet.

Use a tried and tested recipe when entertaining. When you have guests over for a meal, always prepare something tasty that you have made before. This is not the time to test a new recipe as it could turn out to be a disaster! Also, remember to find out if your guests have any dietary requirements or allergies, or if they simply don’t like a certain kind of food. This will ensure that your evening is a success.

If you need to slice meat into thin strips, then partially freeze it beforehand. This is perfect for meals that require really thin meat such as Chinese or Thai dishes. Partially freezing meat keep the fibers in meat from stretching and tearing resulting in perfectly sliced strips. Make sure that you let the meat thaw before cooking, so the meat is cooked evenly.

Always bring your steaks to room temperature before cooking them. A steak that is still cold in the center will not cook as evenly as one that is brought up to room temperature. Usually taking them out one hour in advance will get them to the proper temperature at cooking time.

Cook your vegetables quickly to retain quality and nutrients. The longer you cook vegetables, the less flavor and nutrition they have. These cooking techniques tend to preserve the health benefits of vegetables in general. Cooking vegetables for only a short amount of time is essential.

For the moistest banana bread ever, peel and then freeze the bananas slated for the next loaf. Bananas placed in a covered container in the freezer will absorb moisture from the freezing process and that little extra “juice”, goes a long way. Not only will your bread be more moist, it will also have a more intense banana flavor.

If you are planning on grilling, make sure that you take your steaks out of the freezer at least one hour before you cook so that they can match the room temperature. This will allow you to cook them easier and achieve the quality that you are looking for, by cooking them on the grill.

Read the recipe fully before you begin any cooking endeavor! Just reading the list of ingredients does not ensure that you are fully prepared to complete the meal. There are many different techniques and tools that may be required so do not be too ambitious when tackling a new recipe.

If you are one of those people that does not eat a lot of vegetables so the fresh veggies you buy go bad very fast you should buy frozen vegetables. Frozen vegetables are flash frozen so they are the same as eating fresh veggies and you only have to take as much as you need from the package and return the rest to the freezer.
