You can cook to eat, or you can cook as a hobby. To become a good cook, you will need a little time, a good recipe, and the right ingredients. With that in mind, keep reading to discover both information and advice that will help you in your cooking efforts.

Your spices should be stored in a place that is cool and dark. When spices are exposed to light and heat, they lose their flavor and it reduces their storage life. When a spice is placed in a cool area with very little light, its life is extended and it will taste better. Using fresh spices makes meals even more delicious.

The one downside of garlic is that your hands easily absorb the smell of it. Rubbing your hands on something made of stainless steel, such as your sink, can help to get rid of these odors. It both cleans your hands and helps to avoid transfer the odor to other foods.

You will want to be sure that this product doesn’t have high amounts of sugar or sodium, they could cause major health problems if they are over consumed.

A nutritious way to reduce the calories from your mashed potatoes is to replace some of the potatoes with cauliflower. Cauliflower has little taste of its own, so it will blend right into your potatoes and pick up flavors from whatever other ingredients you use. Cauliflower is also the same texture and color of potatoes when mashed so it’s a great way to add more veggies, while lowering calories from classic mashed potatoes.

Now you may have fresh fruit at anytime during the year. You’ll also be able to enjoy fruits out of season when the mood strikes you.

This seasoning can be used with various foods other than meat. Sprinkle it on top of roasted sunflower or pumpkin seeds for a snack, or use the seasoning to top scrambled eggs. Everyone at the table will be asking for your recipe!

If you have a tight deadline to cook a roast, leave the bone in the piece of meat. The bone acts as a conduit to draw heat to the center of your roast, helping the roast to cook more quickly. Once it’s finished cooking, you can plate up your meat after simply trimming around the bone.

If you want the cooking process to be both faster and easier, prepare as much as you can ahead of time. Look over your recipe and determine which items can be prepared in advance and not spoil. Lots of prep work can be completed the day before cooking. Prepping before you cook can make even advanced recipes fun and accessible.

When your life is hectic and making dinner is difficult, try preparing some things in advance. You can cut up ingredients, measure spices, marinate meat and prepare sauces 24 hours in advance to avoid the stress of preparing a more complex meal. Doing the prep work ahead of time will decrease stress, and increase your enjoyment of finishing the meal.

If your recipe calls for a liquid, try using something other than water or milk. This will add a spark to that tired old dish. You could use chicken broth or juice, instead of water. You should try and dry your tomatoes on your own. You can use Roma tomatoes cut lengthwise, or ripe tomatoes sliced about a half inch thick. Put them on a rack with the cut side up and add sufficient salt. Place the cooling rack on a cookie sheet and dry in a 190 degree oven for up to 10 hours. The tomatoes can then be placed in plastic bags and stored in the freezer. You can also store them in jars packed with herbs and olive oil. The tomatoes will need to be refrigerated and should be consumed within a couple of weeks.

Prepare some of your food the night before to save time and headaches. Try slicing up some vegetables and onions, then make a sauce or marinate the meat before going to sleep. With far less work left, you’ll be eager to pick up where you left off at dinner time.

Don’t throw out turkey leftovers, whether it is from a holiday dinner or an everyday meal. Instead, cut the turkey into smaller pieces, store it in a container that’s airtight, and freeze it. The turkey will stay fresh for several weeks, and you can use it for sandwiches or salads.

You can make dried tomatoes yourself. Start by cutting full-sized tomatoes into 1/2″ slices or by halving Roma tomatoes. You should place them on cooling rack, and salt them lightly with the cut side up. Use a cookie sheet to hold the rack and set it in the oven at 190 degrees for at least 10 hours. The tomatoes can then be placed in plastic bags and stored in the freezer. Another way to preserve your dried tomatoes is in olive oil, with herbs for added flavor, in a glass jar. When refrigerated, they will last a minimum of two weeks.

Your cutting board retains the odors of certain herbs and vegetables despite repeated scrubbings. Use a permanent pen to make a mark so you know which side you are using.

Don’t waste your turkey leftovers after Thanksgiving dinner. Rather, cut the turkey into pieces, pile it into a sealed container and freeze it. The turkey will be more fresh after a couple of weeks when doing this. It is great in a sandwich or a salad.

If you plan on using raw onions in your salsa, rinse them with cold water after dicing and then proceed to blot them dry. Onions that are fresh have a great deal of sulfurous gas. It can affect the taste of your home made salsa. Rinsing the onions in cold water will get rid of the gas.

There are several different methods you can use to heat tortillas. One way is to set the oven so that it will reach 350 degrees, and place the tortilla right on the rack. Then just take it out when it is as crispy as you like it. You can also place a tortilla directly above the flame of the grill. These methods can make your tortilla taste better.
